A quick story:
I’m working while watching my stream when I see a tweet about a presentation happening in a few minuets at a conference a few people I follow are attending. The topic directly relates to something I’m thinking about as I see the update. The only thing I have to help me point towards a live stream, or SlideShare or even a conference website is the hashtag.
So I set up a TweetDeck column for the hashtag and wait for someone to post some more info. And wait. And wait. And it never happens. So I Google the hashtag, thinking the acronym used will lead me to an organization or event page. As you can see below, nothing helpful comes back.
It’s fun to flog hashtags around for comedic effect. But for event-based hashtags, shouldn’t there be some type of database/registration where you can voluntarily assignment more info to your tag? If I want to know what AMIN 2011 is, I’d love to click on the tag and be offered more information right from Twitter because someone had the forethought to think curious minds may be wanting some background.
