It has 600+ horsepower and goes 200+ mph. It will hit 60 mph before before Bob Lutz switches jobs. Twice.  The front brakes have more pistons than your Honda’s engine. It surpasses super cars three times its price. And yet, despite all of these real world engineering accomplishments, Chevy gives us a history lesson on rocket building. I’m not Chevy’s biggest fan, but go stand next to a new Corvette and try not to be impressed. Better yet, sit in one while 600 ft-lbs of torque gives that steak you had for dinner last night a heartbeat again.

The correlation between past American ingenuity and our modern product is becoming old hat. It also makes us look like we spent the 70′s and 80′s concentrating on producing nothing but awful music and worse fashion. Oh, wait.

So you have this product, this just completely bad ass, takes no prisoners hunk of aluminum and carbon fiber and you waste much of the commercial showing assembly lines and rocket footage from the 60′s. The Corvette isn’t a Jeep, nor is its latest ad near as good Jeep’s. We don’t need to revive faith in an entire brand and its quality. With the Corvette, quality is the not the key message, it should not be above “deafening exhaust” or “brake rotors the size of a putting green” on the features list. The top of the line Corvette ZR1 may be America’s most competitive car since the 60′s and we can’t even give it a proper ad.

If the new Corvette spot is any indication of the rest of Chevy’s campaign, I kindly request my bailout money back.
